PURE
FULLERENES
The fullerenes, discovered in
1985 by researchers at the University of Sussex and Rice
University (Kroto, et al. C60 Buckminsterfullerene;
Nature, 1985, 318,162), are a family of carbon allotropes.
Fullerenes are the third allotropic form of carbon material
(after graphite and diamond).
As individual molecules,
fullerenes are about 1 nm in diameter.
